My name is Amaya Selyna. I am a Jamaican-born visual artist working primarily in abstract figuration. What began as a personal outlet has evolved into an ongoing exploration of identity, emotion, and storytelling through visual language.
Psychology plays a central role in my practice. Drawing from my studies in biological psychology, I examine how perception, memory, and behavior shape the way art is created and experienced. I engage with the subconscious through automatism, allowing intuition to guide my process and reveal imagery beyond conscious control.
This balance between research and instinct allows me to create work that feels both deeply personal and universally resonant. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, I experiment with color, form, and gesture to capture emotional states that words often fail to express. Each painting becomes an open space for reflection, inviting viewers to connect through their own psychological and emotional lens.
My practice continues to evolve through curiosity and experimentation as I refine my voice and push the boundaries between abstraction and figuration.
